Who We Are (old)

Hey, there. Welcome to Turtle Vida! We are Jeff and Clarinda. Thanks so much for stopping by, and checking out who we are.

We thought it would be fun to do this like a Q&A in a magazine.

Q: Where are you guys?
A: We currently live in Las Vegas, NV. We ended up here by total accident back in 2012, but we love it here so much. We love the dry, desert air, and YES! the summer heat, too. Don't let anyone fool you; it gets cold here in the winter.

Q: How did you end up in Vegas by total accident?
A: That's a great story! We should devote a whole post about it. :) Long story short, we were on a long-ass road trip from Minnesota to Belize with a pit stop in Vegas for a small reunion with some of Clarinda's college friends. We fell in love with Vegas and simply never continued our journey. Like we said, the full story is worthy of a post of its own.

Q: You mentioned Minnesota. Is that where you're from?
A: Well, Clarinda is a born-and-bred Minnesotan, and we did meet in Minnesota, but Jeff is actually from a small town in Washington. He moved to Minnesota for work, and we met shortly thereafter. We were friends for more than a year before we started dating. Once we started dating, though, we fell hard. We were married just a few weeks later and have been married for more than 11 years now.

Q: Sounds like there's more of a story there! We can't wait for a post on that. How about kids?

A: No kids for us, but we have had our Sallie-girl since 2008. We adopted her from the Animal Humane Society, and they say she's a border terrier mix. We pretty much treat her like our child. She goes on all of our road trips and anywhere else we can justify taking her.

We also have Genie and Roxie, our two Scions. Yes, we often refer to our vehicles by name, like they're our kids. Genie is a white Scion iQ; we've had her since Sept 2013. We recently added Roxie to our family just in Jan 2016; she's a black xB.

Q: What a fun, unique little family! We look forward to following along on your adventures and getting to know all of you better. Speaking of adventures, what kind of adventures have you been on and what are you looking most forward to?

A: Ooph! That is a loaded question. We'd have to say our favorite adventures have definitely been road trips! We've road tripped from New York City to Oregon, with a pit stop in Minnesota; from Oregon to Minnesota; from Minnesota to Washington, with stops in Wyoming and California, back to Minnesota; from Minnesota to Vegas, with stops in Washington and California, on our way to Belize (which ended in Vegas). Phew! That's a LOT of driving, but we had so much fun on all of them and have lots of stories to share.

As for what we're most looking forward to... LOTS more road trips. :-) We'd love to road trip out to the Mammoth Caves in Kentucky at some point. We just love to explore! And, there is so much to see and do right here in Vegas or within a 4-5 hour drive, so lots of opportunity for shorter roads trips, too.

Q: We get it. You love road trips. :-) What do you guys do for fun, when you're not road tripping on some crazy adventure?
A: We love to be outside! Running, hiking, biking. Clarinda is the more avid runner, but Jeff joins her now-and-again. We're both certified SCUBA divers, too. We also enjoy hot tubbing or lounging around our apartment watching TV/movies. Let's just say that we love adventures, but we also love to kick back and relax.

Q: Okay, one last question. Turtle Vida. How did you come up with that?
A: Well, we've been to Costa Rica a couple times now, and they live by a saying, "Pura Vida," which, though it has many meanings, embodies their happy, laid back, and content lifestyle. And, while in the Virgin Islands, we got a little taste of "Island Time" living, which gave us further appreciation for the slower pace. Then, there's the fact that we love turtles! :-) They seem to embody us and our lifestyle - they carry their homes on their backs; they take the slow, leisurely way of life; they are steady and true to their course.

Well, that's all we have time for! Thanks again for stopping by!
