Turtles, Tortoises, and Terrapins
Do you know the difference?
All three are cold-blooded reptiles that have scales, breathe air, and lay their eggs on land.
The differences between the three have to do with their living habitats.
A turtle spends most of its life in the water.
A tortoise is a land-dweller.
A terrapin always lives near water, but spends its time both on land and in the water.
Up until a couple weeks ago, we'd never even heard of a terrapin! Turns out, growing up in Minnesota - land of 10,000 lakes - everything Clarinda thought was a turtle was actually a terrapin. Who knew?!
And, with this new-found knowledge, I guess we should have named our blog Terrapin Vida. But that just doesn't roll off the tongue as well.
We'll stick with Turtle Vida. ;-)
