The United Relay began.
This epic relay kicked off in the Seattle area with the Red Route. The White Route starts next week in San Francisco and the Blue on May 8th in LA.
Run for Charity
That's a lot of miles. And a lot of runners. All coming together to not only run across America, but to raise money for lots of great causes. The relay is presented by the We Are Here Movement, a one-stop donation shop. They "take the guesswork out of where and how to give, by curating a coalition of the best organizations, causes, and campaigns that are ready to change the world."
All runners are encouraged to raise at least $300, but you can still run your stage even if you fall short of your fundraising goal.
I'm running for the We Are Here Movement (you can sponsor me here), but you can choose one of their partner charities. Or Concern Universal. Or several Children's Hospitals. Find a cause that speaks to you and join us.
Safety First
The relay will run day and night until June 4th. Most runners will be out there solo, so the United Relay has teamed up with Aftershokz. They offer some great products that are perfect for runners who enjoy listening to music, but want the safety that comes with being aware of the ambient noise as well as the pump-you-up jams on their favorite playlist.
As a sweat pink ambassador, I was given an opportunity to try out a pair of their Trekz Titanium wireless headphones. (Watch my unboxing here) I am in love! These are amazing, and I would definitely recommend them.
Pair them with your phone, so you can listen to whatever motivates you while still hearing the traffic, other runners, and any other sounds around you. They use bone conduction technology to deliver sound through your cheekbones.
"If sports or being active is why you wear earbuds, then forget about earbuds entirely and "go through the bone" by wearing these." - Examiner.com
I was skeptical about how the sound quality would be, but it seemed great to me! I could hear everything perfectly. I took them for a run with a friend, and we could easily carry on a good conversation while I had some music playing in the background. I also felt much more comfortable running with music in the high traffic area near our work. Something I wouldn't normally do. The best of both worlds.
If you join the United Relay, be aware that only open ear headphones will be allowed.
Be a Part of History
It's not too late to be part of this. If you live in the Las Vegas area, I'd love for you to join me at the Group Stage on May 10 at 7:25 AM.
If not, you can find your stage here. With three routes spanning the entire United States, there are lots of stages to choose from. Plus, you can save 30% off your stage with this link - making a group stage only $17.50 and an individual stage only $35.
Check out the live map to keep up on the progress of the relay.
