Sign Me Up Sunday: Antelope Canyon

Several years ago, I was scrolling through Pinterest and came across some breathtaking canyons in Arizona. I'd never heard of Antelope Canyon before that, but I immediately knew I needed to add it to my bucket list.

Back when we were planning our epic road trip of 2012, I really wanted to find a way to make it a pit stop along our travels. But, as you may know, we cut the road trip short and have been in Vegas ever since. (see 2nd question on our Who We Are page)

It's less than a 5 hour drive from us now, so I think we'll definitely be able to cross this one off our bucket list soon(ish)! What I *really* want to do is run an ultra marathon through the canyon. A friend of mine ran one just last month, and I was so jealous! I'm hoping for 2017 to the be year I run 55k through the canyon. Shhhh. Don't tell Jeff.

But if I don't make it for an ultra, Jeff and I can at least go for some hiking - though the race does go through parts not available to the average tourist. ;-)

Antelope Canyon is on Navajo land east of Page, AZ. It is sacred land to the Navajo, so commercial photography is restricted without a special permit, and camping and hiking permits are required. Pricing seems pretty reasonable and permits can be mail ordered, or I think you can get them right at the Park Office in Page. We'll probably need to send some emails and make some phone calls before making the drive. :-)

Of course, many parts of the canyon are only accessible via guided tour, so that might be our best option. There are several tour companies and options to choose from.

I can't wait to cross this place off our bucket list!
